Carvedilol or Coreg belongs to a group of medicines called beta-adrenergic blocking agents. Beta-blockers work by affecting the response to some nerve impulses in certain parts of the body. As a result, they decrease the heart's need for blood and oxygen by reducing its workload. They also help the heart to beat more regularly.
For what it is used?
Coreg is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure may increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.
This medication is also used to prevent further worsening of congestive heart failure.
It is used to treat left ventricular dysfunction after a heart attack.
Carvedilol may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Instruction and dosage:
Coreg, like many other medicines, is available only with your doctor's prescription. Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, it may take 1 or 2 weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
Take this medication by mouth with food, usually twice a day, or as directed by your doctor.
Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it.
Don’t worry about missed dose, you can take it as soon as you remembered. If your next dose is less than 4 hours away, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine.
If you have an overdose, with such symptoms, as heartbeats, shortness of breath, bluish-coloured fingernails, dizziness, weakness, fainting, or seizure (convulsions) seek emergency.

Possible side effects:

• allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat;
• slow or uneven heartbeats;
• feeling light-headed, fainting;
• feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;
• swelling of your ankles or feet;
• nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); depression or cold feeling in your hands and feet.

Less serious side effects may also occur:

• decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm;
• sleep problems (insomnia);
• tired feeling;
• anxiety, nervousness.

The other side effects, which are not listed may occur too. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Don’t forget to hide the medication out of a reach of children.
